Reflux Disease

How is Reflux Diagnosed?

Reflux is normally diagnosed in the first instance on symptoms alone although in some cases a trial of a hypoallergenic milk formula(or if breast feeding) a trial of the mother removing cow or soy milk proteins from her own diet may be suggested to rule out any food allergy connection.

A trial of the non-pharmaceutical therapies for a few weeks, and then a 2-4 week trial of medicationsmay be considered to see if there is any improvement of symptoms if the non-pharmaceutical therapies have been ineffective.

Your specialist may also request the following tests to confirm and assess the reflux, and to rule out any abnormalities that could be at the root of the reflux symptoms.

These are the most commonly considered when diagnosing reflux.
