Vee's Fundoplication Story
I am a 37 yr old and who's had an open Fundoplication performed....
It was done this way rather than Laparoscopically as I also have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and there was a risk of rupture... In 1995 after five years on Cisapride but still experiencing some reflux and bouts of severe abdominal pain and vomiting.
I have an incision from my breastbone to below my navel which healed very well.
I was on IV fluids for the first few days then gradually re-introduced to fluids and solids...
At first I lived on lightly boiled eggs and soup as anything else gave me a severe pain as though I had a lead weight in my stomach that took my breath away.
I have continued to need to take Cisapride 20mg twice a day...I receive it on a named patient basis as it's withdrawn and I have a bad reaction to Maxalon, Domperidome, Stemetil etc. I also take Lansoprazole 15mg twice a day.
Recently my reflux has increased so I am going to get referred back to my Gastroenterologist to see if there's anything he can do to help me...it is possible that the structure may have stretched due to the EDS and collagen abnormality.
If there's anything anyone would like to ask me I'll be happy to help if I can...also it would be nice to speak to any adults who have had this surgery !
