Dr Hassall is currently with Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation in San Francisco.

Dr Hassall is Professor of Pediatrics in the Dept of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology at BC Children’s Hospital & University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, CANADA.

He obtained his medical degree at the University of Capetown, South Africa, and trained in general pediatrics in London, England, and Children’s Hospital / University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He received his gastroenterology training at the UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA.

He established a new Division of Gastroenterology and GI Procedures Unit at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada in 1984, including a new pediatric procedures unit and home TPN program. His special interests include the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric upper GI disorders, including GE reflux disease and Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, in addition to gastritis /gastropathy, peptic ulcer diseases, celiac disease and endoscopy.

He has headed international clinical studies, and national professional committees. He has served on several international scientific and advisory committees, clinical practice guidelines committees, and journal Editorial Boards. He serves as an advisor to the U.S. Federal Drug Administration.

He has given more than 350 presentations worldwide, and has more than 200 publications in the field.
